Provost’s Awards recipients announced

Four professors and three teaching assistants at UK received the 2009 Provost’s Outstanding Teaching Awards at a recognition ceremony on April 24. The award recognizes faculty and graduate teaching assistants who demonstrate special dedication and success in their teaching; and to encourage awareness of the importance of excellence in teaching. Recipients are selected via nomination and review by a selection committee based in the Office of the Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs. Winners receive cash prizes of $5,000 for tenured faculty, $3,500 for non-tenured faculty and $1,000 for teaching assistants.

The recipients for this year are:

Tenured Faculty:

Larry Grabau – College of Agriculture, Department of Plant and Soil

Jennifer Brueckner – College of Medicine, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology

Non-tenured Faculty:

John Balk II – College of Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering

Heather Bush – College of Public Health, Department of Biostatistics

Teaching Assistants:

Germain Choffart – College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Modern and Classical Languages – French

Travis Hedwig – College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Anthropology

Julie Miker – College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Mathematics

The Provost’s Distinguished Service Professors were also awarded at ceremony:

Michael Andrykowski – College of Medicine, Department of Behavioral Science

John Eichhorn – College of Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology

Lorraine Garkovich – College of Agriculture, Department of Community and Leadership Development

Merl Hackbart – Gatton College of Business and Economics, School of Management

Jeffrey Okeson – College of Dentistry

Philip Palmgreen – College of Communication and Information Studies, Department of Communication
